JUA CALI ON HOW PIRACY BUILD THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

By  |

Veteran musician Jua Cali took social media to highlight the importance of piracy in the music industry.

While piracy is often regarded as a scourge on the music industry, Jua Cali explained how piracy in a peculiar way, contributed to the growth and evolution of music in Kenya. “There was a time when my big brother told me “If your song is not pirated, you know that your song is not strong” At first I didn’t understand what he was saying but later I understood because the pirates were bringing our songs to places we couldn’t reach ourselves, down there in the grassroots.

Piracy made our songs more popular, yes the pirates became brand names through that but in the long run we artists benefited more because our money returned ten fold through performances and endorsements,” Jua Cali wrote.

Adding, “The moral of this story is artists! Enter the studio to make dope songs which everyone can benefit from and through that you are the one who will make the most money and win everyone else.”

He encouraged artistes to continue producing good music, “Piracy under water became something suitable especially for an artist who is just starting out. Big up to all creatives out there, let’s continue with the work.
