NONINI ON WHY HE HAS NO RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS EX-MP FATHER

Popular musician Herbert Nakitare also known as Nonini openly shares insights into his formative years, reflecting on the experiences of his upbringing in a single-parent household.

Speaking on Iko Nini Podcast, the We Kamu singer said he has no relationship with his ex-politician father, “My dad is alive but we have no relationship. By the time I was born he was missing. I met him once in a while when I was growing up, lunch here and there, but we have no relationship whatsoever,” he began.

According to Nonini, his mother told him that when his father was arrested and jailed; it led to their separation. After he was released he never looked for them.

“My dad is Bukusu and mum Kamba. He is a former MP and people used to associate me with him but I don’t have a relationship with him. When I started music many accused me of being a rich kid of a politician. But that wasn’t the case.”

He added, “People say I never hustled but I was born and brought up in Calif. My sisters and brothers have a relationship with him because he was in their lives.” 

The rapper says he envies his child, “I overcompensate with my kid and if I am not careful I might spoil my kid. I envy him. I wish I had that when I was his age.”
