Musician Nadia Mukami extends her gratitude to the government for fulfilling its promise to the creative sector. In a statement, Mukami expressed her appreciation to president William Ruto for his commitment to supporting content creators.

Mukami’s comment comes following a pledge fulfilled by the government, “Asante Sana your excellency for keeping your word on this issue! Kudos your excellency! This is so amazing for the creative sector,” she said.

Nadia also took the opportunity to make a plea to the president to consider streamlining the music industry, “As an artist I am also requesting you to consider streaming our music industry (Royalties sector) your excellency. You have kept your word with the content creators. Tukumbuke Pia sisi your excellency! Tunakuomba.”

In a recent announcement,  the president said that Kenyan digital content creators will now be able to monetise their content on Facebook and Instagram, as from June, 2024. Speaking on Monday, March 18, Ruto added that the new development attests to the economic agenda which promises to give every Kenyan a chance to earn an income and transform their lives.

In a few weeks, many of you will be eligible. Eligibility criteria will now be available for all creators in Kenya. That’s a big step to make sure that our content creators have an opportunity to monetise their talent to give themselves additional revenue and I’m truly grateful to Facebook for walking with us on this journey.

I’ve gotten a commitment that by June, all our creators will now have an opportunity to monetise everything they do in that space, put Ads, and it speaks to our Bottom-up Economic Transformation agenda on making sure that we give everybody a chance,” Ruto said.
