SINGER SOFIYA NZAU CALLS FOR URGENT SUPPORT FOR MATHARE FLOOD VICTIMS

Popular singer Sofiya Nzau has raised an urgent call for assistance following a recent visit to Mathare, where she witnessed the devastating impact of the recent floods on the local community.

Nzau, who went to Mathare to deliver donations, was deeply moved by the challenging conditions she encountered. “We went to Mathare to take donations, but we found out that the situation in Mathare is really bad,” she said. 

“So many families have lost their homes and each other. Some have lost their loved ones to the floods, and in some cases, husbands and wives are living separately – the wife in a church and the husband in a mosque. You find a place where 25 men are living together in a very small space.”

The Mwaki hitmaker said there is need for shelter and support for the displaced residents of Mathare. “What we want to bring awareness to is that the people of Mathare need shelter, and the government is not helping. 

The affordable houses are available, but they’re not being provided to the people of Mathare. If we can build something for them to sleep in as they figure out their lives, it would be a great help, especially since most of them have lost their jobs.”
