Content creator Natalie Tewa has talked about the challenges she faced during her childhood.

Natalie recounted the difficult times that followed her parents’ divorce, which occurred when she was five years old. “My parents divorced when I was really young. We used to live in Uganda, where my mum had a really good job. But then something bad happened—our house caught fire and burned down, and there was drama with my dad,” she shared.

Following the incident, Natalie and her mother relocated to Nairobi, where they faced further challenges. “Mum and I came back to Nairobi, and we stayed with my aunty for some time before she got back on her feet. She told me she used to sell mtumba (second-hand clothes) just to survive.”

Despite the hardships, Natalie’s mother worked tirelessly to rebuild their lives. “She eventually got a house in Nairobi Dam Estate in Lang’ata, where I grew up. I used to ride bikes with boys in the estate,” Natalie recalled.

Natalie also shared her experiences in the education system, “I went to Malezi Primary School, then Makini Primary School, and later joined Precious Blood Riruta. It was such a bad school in my opinion—that boarding school life was tough.”
