FILM PRODUCER PHILIP KARANJA VISITS TYLER PERRY STUDIOS

Renowned Kenyan filmmaker Philip Karanja, has visited iconic Tyler Perry Studios, Philip shared his excitement on social media, stating, “The vision is clear 🎥🎬 #dreamcometrue.” 

Karanja alongside celebrated actor Ken Ambani, are currently in the United States as part of the prestigious American Film Showcase Fellow 2024 cohort. The duo, among other notable African filmmakers and industry leaders, were invited to the U.S. for an exchange program with Hollywood filmmakers. 

Karanja has engaged in a series of enriching experiences, including a meeting with Nicole Elkon, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Professional and Cultural Exchanges. Reflecting on the experience, he said, “Had a very informative meeting with the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Professional and Cultural Exchanges Nicole Elkon and wrapped up with an out-of-this-world dinner with billionaire and co-founder of BET, Sheila Johnson. Very validating experience 👌🏾.” 

The fellows also toured Universal Studios ahead of attending the Middleburg Film Festival in Virginia. This initiative is part of a broader effort by the U.S. State Department to support Africa’s creative economy and facilitate lasting collaborations between U.S. and African filmmakers.
