MUSICIAN KAZ SHARES POST-HYSTERECTOMY UPDATE
Renowned musician, Karen Lucas, popularly known as Kaz, has opened up about her recovery journey following a hysterectomy.
In an update shared with her fans, Kaz revealed that she is now five weeks post-operation and reflected on her experience without her menstrual cycle. “It’s been five weeks since I had my uterus removed, but now I can say that this period I’m having right now, for the last two or three days, is the time when I would be having my menstrual cycle. I am currently on my non-period, and now I’ve remembered how it goes and how it feels,“ Kaz shared.
Despite the absence of pain and bleeding, Kaz said that the familiar symptoms associated with her menstrual cycle have remained. “My period app has synced it up. It said yesterday, ‘Today is the day when your period begins.’ And it made so much sense, other than the excruciating pain and the bleeding, all of the other symptoms remain.”
In September 2024, the popular musician revealed that she will undergo a full hysterectomy after being diagnosed with fibroids two years ago. In a public announcement, Kaz said that her gynaecologist discovered two fibroids in her uterus, which has led to her decision to undergo a full hysterectomy. “In five days, I will be getting my uterus removed. The procedure is laparoscopic, which means the removal will be minimally invasive. They will be removing my uterus, cervix, and fallopian tubes,” Kaz stated.
Kaz reassured her fans and followers that she will not enter early menopause. “I will still keep my ovaries, which means I’ll continue to have PMS, ovulate, and produce eggs. Early menopause isn’t something I need to worry about right now,” she explained.
She also revealed that her doctors suspect she may have endometriosis on her right ovary, a condition they will address during the surgery. “My gynaecologist says that it is her duty to make sure that she protects my ovaries. So ovary removal is not going to be a thing that I have to think about right now,” she added.
