‘SEPTEMBER WAS TOUGH’ ANITA NDERU ON DAUGHTER’S HEALTH CHALLENGES
Media personality Anita Nderu has opened up about the struggles she faced in September.
In a candid revelation, she gives insight into the challenges of balancing parenthood and personal health. “September was tough for me, to be honest. I even coined a term for it: PEMS – Physically, Emotionally, Mentally, and Socially draining,” said Nderu.
She explained how her daughter, Kaya who had not been sick in two years, suddenly started falling ill frequently after starting school, which led to sleepless nights and anxiety. “I hated seeing how coughing (something she had never done before) hurt and shocked her, so we barely slept. Between not sleeping, working, and trying to be present for all my other responsibilities, I completely drained myself.”
In addition to her daughter’s illness, Anita revealed she was overwhelmed and had to take time off social media. “Kaya is doing better now, and I’m so grateful! I finally got a full night’s sleep two days ago, but I still wasn’t fully ready to jump back into life as usual. Balance is important, but even with all the help in the world, life can really drain you to the point where your PEMS are completely depleted, and you feel like you have nothing left to give. I know it’s not unusual for me to go quite online, but even with all the incredible work done by amazing creatives recently, I just didn’t have the energy to share.”
She admitted to switching off her phone for days. “Sometimes, nothing feels great, and switching off my phone for days honestly felt great.”
