‘SHAME ON YOU’ OGA OBINNA ON MPS PRIORITISING SELF-INTEREST OVER PUBLIC NEEDS
Popular media personality and comedian Oga Obinna has spoken out against members of parliament, criticising their ability to pass motions that serve their own interests, while neglecting urgent matters affecting ordinary Kenyans.
Speaking in a video shared on social media, Obinna talked about his frustration over the recent impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, highlighting the contrast between this and the slow progress on critical issues that impact the country.
“If you look at the energy, the zeal, the enthusiasm that our members of parliament had when they were pitching for Riggy G, you’d be amazed. These people tabled this motion, and in less than a week, it’s already passed. Even members of parliament who are never in parliament were on the floor. Wow. I’m shocked,” Obinna stated, expressing disbelief at the speed at which the motion was handled.
He went on to voice his disappointment at how MPs often delay the progress of more pressing national issues. “I’m so ashamed of our members of parliament right now. We have very important motions on the floor, very important amendments that could be beneficial to the country. But they always come up with excuses and never get the job done,” Obinna lamented.
The comedian pointed out the disconnect between the priorities of the country’s leaders. “You guys know people are dying. You guys know a lot of things are not working, but you’ve decided this is the priority right now? This is what needs to be passed in record time? Shame on you. Yes, I said it,” he added.
Obinna concluded his video by calling on MPs to fulfil their mandate responsibly and without the influence of incentives. “Most of you know what you need to do, but you never do it unless you are paid. It’s your job, it’s your mandate. That’s what we put you there to do. But when it comes to things that affect the common mwananchi, you guys take your sweet time,” he said.
