DIAMOND PLATNUMZ EXPLAINS WHY HE DIDN’T PERFORM DESPITE BEING PAID SH19 MILLION
Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz has explained the reason why he missed his performance at the Furaha City Festival in Nairobi last weekend.
Diamond revealed he was paid $150,000 approximately Sh19.4 million to headline the event, which took place at the Nairobi Polo Club. The singer explained his adherence to strict performance policies, stating that he does not perform beyond the scheduled time. “I cannot be paid $150,000 and then fight to perform on stage. I will arrive at the venue on time and wait for the event organiser to instruct me to get on stage as agreed. If my performance time lapses, I will leave, and there will be no refunds,” said Diamond.
Addressing allegations of barring fellow Kenyan artist Willy Paul from performing, Diamond dismissed the claims as baseless. Willy Paul had accused Diamond’s management of blocking his set so the Tanzanian star could take the stage before him. “I would be stupid to do that; how does it even make sense? I was the headlining act, meaning all other artists were to perform before I closed the concert,” he added.
He accused Willy Paul of seeking clout, adding, “Music requires hard work and proper management, not cooked-up stories and sympathy.” Diamond also said that he avoids confrontations with event organisers or other artists. “I don’t have time to negotiate or fight for stage time. That’s not how I operate,” he concluded.
