MC JESSY SLAMS MCSK, PRISK & KAMP OVER SH200K FEE FOR COMEDY EVENT
Renowned comedian Jasper Muthomi also known as MC Jessy has publicly called out the Collective Management Organizations (CMOs) MCSK, PRISK, and KAMP for demanding an upfront payment of Sh200,000 to host his upcoming comedy show, Plus or Minus 40.
In a statement, the comedian expressed frustration over what he sees as an unjustified demand by the CMOs, which traditionally oversee music royalties. Speaking on social media, MC Jessy said, “Oh my God! We are planning an event called Plus or Minus 40, a comedy show. I have struggled here with my team, I have skaters, and I have even paid social media influencers to promote the show. We have worked tirelessly to give people a good show. Now MCSK, PRISK, and KAMP say I have to pay Sh200,000 for me to do this event.”
The outspoken comedian questioned the rationale behind the demand, saying that his event is a comedy show and not a music-centred one. He further pointed out the ongoing dissatisfaction from musicians over the small royalties disbursed by the CMOs, “Where is comedy in music royalties? Even if I pay Sh200,000, how much will you pay Bien, Khaligraph, and King Kaka—Sh1,500?”
