NIGERIAN ACTRESS INI EDO GETS CANDID ABOUT 6 MISCARRIAGES AND SURROGACY
Renowned Nigerian actress and producer Ini Edo has opened up about fertility challenges and her decision to embrace surrogacy.
Edo, celebrated for her award-winning roles in Nollywood, revealed the emotional and physical challenges she endured on her path to motherhood. “I don’t think surrogacy is something people just wake up and say they want to do. I never thought I would face fertility issues,” she said.
Adding, “I have had issues carrying pregnancies long term. When it looked like it was never going to happen when I wanted it to happen and I wasn’t getting younger, I said what are the options? Then surrogacy came up so I took it. I’m very happy with my decision.”
The actress explained how surrogacy became the best choice for her. “Surrogacy wasn’t a fancy way out for me. I have done IVFs. I’ve lost it midway through. I have heard over six miscarriages. I know what I have dealt with as a woman,” she disclosed.
Ini got married at 26 with dreams of completing her family by 31 however things did not go as she expected, “I thought at the age of 31 I would be done with child bearing. I would’ve retired and face my career but life didn’t pan out that way,” she shared. Edo hopes to normalise conversations around fertility and surrogacy.
