VANESSA MDEE CELEBRATES FIVE YEARS OF SOBRIETY

Award-winning Tanzanian singer Vanessa Mdee has marked a major milestone in her personal journey, celebrating five years of being alcohol-free. In a statement shared on her social media, Mdee wrote, “5 years alcohol free 🙌🙏 glory to God.”

Speaking on her podcast One on One with Vanessa Mdee in June 2020, she courageously detailed the pressures of being a secular artiste, and the facade she maintained to mask her inner battles. “ I became a robot and I have no desire to be a robot or be unhappy anymore,” Vanessa revealed during the podcast, recounting how, for the better part of 2019, she drank herself to sleep and felt trapped by the demands of the music industry.

Vanessa confessed to experiencing anxiety, depression, and a sense of emptiness that led her to make choices that she no longer recognised as her own. Her turning point came through faith and love. “I didn’t want to live a candy-coated life anymore. Love saved my life, Love made me whole, God saved my life, God is love. God brought me an earth angel who said things that I could not have heard from anyone else but my earth angel.”  Crediting her boyfriend for helping her rediscover purpose and embrace a life free of addiction.
