ACTOR LENNY JUMA OPENS UP ABOUT SURVIVING HEART SURGERY AND PROSTATE CANCER
Veteran actor Lenny Juma has opened up about overcoming two life-threatening health challenges, heart surgery and prostate cancer.
In a candid interview with Cheptoek Boyo on Buzz Central Podcast. The celebrated actor, known for his contributions to film and theatre, revealed how timely medical intervention helped him.
Juma’s heart surgery, came after he was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat. “I had a heart surgery, my heart was beating irregularly. It was $19,000, but I didn’t pay a single cent,” he said. “In the U.S., you are treated as long as it’s an emergency, no questions asked.”
His battle with prostate cancer began in 2016, following an accidental diagnosis. “With prostate cancer, you can actually feel it when it is there,” he explained. “My diagnosis was accidental. I started getting symptoms of gout, and I had a severely swollen legs. I went to the hospital, and fortunately for me, my daughter is a doctor. Another doctor suggested I take a PSA test for prostate, and it was high.”
The diagnosis came as a shock, especially since Juma’s brother had recently passed away from the same disease. “It was stage three, and my brother had just died of prostate cancer. I didn’t check, and it wasn’t because I lacked money. It was just the African mentality, I didn’t want to go,” he admitted.
Juma’s daughter, invited him to the United States, where he began his treatment. “My daughter invited me to America, and I started my treatment there. Until now, I’m okay,” he shared.
