TEMS WINS BEST AFRICAN MUSIC PERFORMANCE AT GRAMMY AWARDS

By  |

Nigerian artiste Tems has won the Best African Music Performance award at the 67th Grammy Awards for her track “Love Me JeJe.”

Tems emerged victorious in a fiercely contested category, surpassing other Nigerian music heavyweights such as Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Davido, Lojay, and Burna Boy to seize the prestigious honour.

Overjoyed, the singer said, “Wow, dear God. Thank you so much for putting me on this stage and bringing me this team.” She dedicated her victory to her mother, whose birthday was the next day, stating, “Tomorrow is my mum’s birthday, and this is her first Grammys. I just want to thank you, ma, because she has really done a lot for me and my brother. Happy birthday, mum.”

She also thanked her team and close friends, adding, “And I want to thank my team. Muyiwa, Wale, my beautiful stylist, and lovely girls… I love you guys. Thank you so much. To God be the glory. Honestly, He has changed my life so much.

Tems missed out on two other categories. The Best R&B Song award went to American artist SZA, while her album Born in the Wild was surpassed by Alkebulan II by Matt B featuring the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in the Best Global Music Album category.

This victory marks Tems second Grammy win. In 2023, she secured the Best Melodic Rap Performance award for her involvement in Wait for U, a popular track by Future featuring Drake.
