WANURI KAHIU SERVES AS JUROR AT SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL
Acclaimed Kenyan filmmaker Wanuri Kahiu has served as a member of the 2025 World Cinema Dramatic Jury at the Sundance Film Festival.
In a post on her social media platforms, Wanuri said she worked along fellow jurors Ava Cahen and Daniel Kaluuya. “Thank you, @sundanceorg! It was an honour to serve on the 2025 World Cinema Dramatic Jury. I’m not sure if the breathlessness came from the mountain air or the sheer joy of sharing this experience with @ava_cahen and @danielkaluuya, but time and again, I found myself pausing, taking deep breaths, and fully absorbing the moment.”
She celebrated storytelling, creativity, and the power of cinema to connect people across cultures. “We watched films, spoke films, sat in silence in dark cinemas and quiet car rides. We hugged, we sobbed, we debated—dissecting scenes, visual poetry, and raw emotion. Gratitude to @sundanceorg, from Robert Redford’s visionary foundation to the festival leaders, programmers, staff, volunteers, and all those—seen and unseen—who make this extraordinary gathering possible. I celebrate you, I support you, and I look forward to more, more, and more!”
Wanuri is known for her critically acclaimed films such as Rafiki and From a Whisper, has been a trailblazer in African cinema, pushing boundaries and challenging stereotypes through her work.
