‘A FATHER FIGURE’ MAQBUL MOHAMMED OPENS UP ABOUT MENTORSHIP UNDER CHRIS KIRUBI
Renowned actor and media personality Maqbul Mohammed recently opened up about his mentorship under the late business magnate Chris Kirubi, describing him as a father figure figure in his life during an interview on the Buzz Central Podcast with Cheptoek Boyo.
Mohammed reflected on Kirubi’s unique ability to connect with and inspire young people, setting him apart from other leaders. “He was a mentor, a father figure, and a teacher, someone I could talk to about life,” Mohammed shared. “A lot of people judge others based on hearsay, but knowing him one-on-one was totally different. Anyone who truly knew him understood he was one of the most amazing figures.”
Kirubi’s passion for empowering the next generation left a lasting impression. “What separated him from every other elder in that space was his desire to connect with young people,” Mohammed explained.”He drew energy from them, learned from them, and taught them in return. He was in his legacy space, and he wanted to leave something meaningful behind.”
The radio presenter credits Kirubi with instilling in him a forward-thinking mindset. “He challenged us not to be complacent in any space,” he recalled. “While others rushed off on holidays, he encouraged us to sit back, improve ourselves, and strategies. Yes, you need time for yourself, but he pushed us to think about the next step, always looking ahead.”
These lessons continue to shape Mohammed’s approach to life and parenting. “I impart that wisdom to my kids every day. I tell them, ‘Don’t just think about now, think 10 steps ahead. What do you want to achieve?’ And that mindset comes directly from Chris Kirubi.”
