COURT BARS FORMER MCSK DIRECTORS FROM INTERFERING WITH SOCIETY’S AFFAIRS

The High Court has issued orders restraining former Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) directors Lazarus Muli and SK Nderitu from any involvement in the society’s affairs, effectively ending their attempts to influence operations after their official terms expired.

In an official statement to members, MCSK CEO Dr. Ezekiel Mutua confirmed that the court had granted injunctive order barring the duo and their associates from participating in or interfering with the society’s activities.

The orders come after weeks of escalating tensions following the expiration of the directors’ extended terms on February 16, 2025. “By dint of these orders, the duo Mr. Muli and Nderitu and their agents are not supposed to interfere in any way with MCSK affairs,” said Mutua.

Security agencies including the Kileleshwa Police Station have been formally served with the court documents to ensure compliance and prevent any potential breach of peace. This action follows reports of an unauthorised meeting notice circulating online, allegedly issued by the former chairman. Dr. Mutua has categorically stated that no such meeting has been sanctioned by the legitimate MCSK leadership.

The situation took a more serious turn when it emerged that Mr. Muli had attempted to manipulate the society’s financial operations. In communications to the bank, he falsely claimed Dr. Mutua was out of the country until July 2025 and sought to install new signatories to MCSK accounts. “We have since stop the illegal bank transactions and our accounts are safe.” Mutua assured members.

Mutua said that all decisions and directives issued by Muli and Nderitu after February 16 hold no legal weight, as per the court’s determination. The CEO reiterated that Mr. Muli no longer holds any official position within MCSK and lacks the authority to convene meetings or make organisational decisions.

MCSK has initiated processes to regularise its governance structure through CR12 documentation and is pursuing a Memorandum of Understanding to resolve outstanding legal matters. Mutua has appealed for patience and unity among members as the society works to stabilise its operations and move past this challenging period.
