DAVIDO, MIRIAM MAKEBA & BOB MARLEY FEATURE IN KING CHARLES III’S PLAYLIST

In celebration of Commonwealth Day, King Charles III has taken on the role of a music show host, presenting an hour-long program on Apple Music 1. 

The show, titled The King’s Music Room, features a diverse playlist of 17 songs that highlight music from across the Commonwealth, as well as some of the King’s personal favourites. The program is being broadcast globally on Apple Music’s radio stations on Monday and Tuesday to mark the occasion.

The playlist includes iconic tracks from Jamaican reggae legend Bob Marley, Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido, and South African singer Miriam Makeba, among others. These selections reflect the King’s appreciation for music from different cultures and its ability to evoke memories, provide comfort, and transport listeners to distant places.

In a trailer for the broadcast, filmed at Buckingham Palace, King Charles shared his thoughts on the power of music: “Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me. It has that remarkable ability to bring happy memories flooding back from the deepest recesses of our memory, to comfort us in times of sadness, and to take us to distant places.”

This playlist not only celebrates the cultural richness of the Commonwealth but also offers a personal glimpse into the King’s musical tastes and the role music has played in his life.
