FILMMAKER PHILIPPE BRESSON URGES KENYAN PRODUCERS TO SUPPORT LOCAL FILMS
Veteran filmmaker and producer Philippe Bresson has issued an appeal to Kenyan producers and industry stakeholders to rally behind local films and content.
Speaking at a recent interview with Cheptoek Boyo on Buzz Central Podcast, Bresson spoke about the importance of unity and mutual support in building a thriving film industry in Kenya.
“Veteran producers, we need to support each other’s work,” Bresson stated. “I made a decision to support different producers’ projects and talk about them, whether I personally like them or not, because the industry really needs that. Some people are intimidated or look down on others’ work, but if we support the industry, that love grows from there and is reflected in the market.“
Bresson drew parallels to the success of Nigeria’s film industry, popularly known as Nollywood. “There was a time we hated on Nigerian content, but they loved it themselves, and look at where they are now. We need to stop the self-hate and the habit of trying to take each other down. As producers and actors, we need to support one another,” he added.
The filmmaker shared his own efforts to promote local projects, “When Mo Faya, Real Housewives of Nairobi and Volume were released, I posted about them on my social media stories and talked about them,” he said.
