MAQBUL MOHAMMED REFLECTS ON ACTING ALONGSIDE HIS MOTHER

Celebrated Kenyan actor and radio personality Maqbul Mohammed recently opened up about one of his most unique professional experiences sharing the screen with his real-life mother in a dramatic on-screen relationship.

In an interview with Cheptoek Boyo on Buzz Central Podcast, Mohammed shared, “Back in the day, I worked with my mom in Reflections TV series where she played the mother of my love interest. She was constantly scolding me on set because my character was the ‘bad boy’ I shouldn’t be with her on-screen daughter. There was even a moment where she shouted at me so authentically during a scene that after they called ‘cut,’ I had to remind her, ‘You’re my mom, what’s going on?‘”

The multi-talented performer spoke glowingly about the rare privilege of collaborating with his mother, a respected veteran in Kenya’s entertainment industry: “It’s fantastic to have a space where I can act with my mom who has been a model, actress and musician. Audiences should look out for her upcoming appearance in ‘Shuga.'”

Mohammed comes from a true entertainment dynasty. His grandmother was also an accomplished actress and musician, while his sisters continue the legacy as a musician and another, Shadya, as an actress. “We’re all in entertainment,” he revealed. “Even my younger brother is making waves as a hip-hop artist in the UK.”
