MEDIA FRATERNITY MOURNS THE SUDDEN PASSING OF JOURNALIST NICK MUDIMBA

By  |

The media industry is in mourning following the sudden passing of CGTN Africa journalist Nick Mudimba, who collapsed at his home in Syokimau, Machakos County, on Sunday evening.

Mudimba, a former KTN and Switch TV news anchor, had reportedly been unwell and was receiving treatment for health complications, including high uric acid levels, which were diagnosed on Saturday.

After seeking further medical attention on Sunday, he returned home in better spirits and even watched the Harambee Stars match against Gabon. Tragically, after taking his prescribed medication, he collapsed and began convulsing. Despite efforts to save him, he passed away. His body has been transferred to a mortuary in Syokimau as the family awaits an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Tributes have poured in from colleagues, friends, and public figures, Remmy Majala, a former workmate said, Nick, this is unbelievable, typing this is unreal. Just sad and shocking. It was fabulous to know you and be in your orbit. You were a fun, light spirit, and we had so many laughs while we worked together. Rest in Paradise, my friend. I pray for God’s Grace and Comfort for your family and loved ones during this time.”

Lofty Matambo, another colleague, shared, “RIP kaka Nick Mudimba. You were so full of life until your death this evening. Kweli haya maisha ni mafupi sana.

Sharon Baranga reminisced about their morning greetings, saying, “Eeiii Nick Mudimba, you just decided to sign off so suddenly…hivyo tu. Our greetings every morning would go like…’vuche msakuru,’ and you’d laugh saying…’we mluhya umekunywa chai?’ Rest in peace, my friend aka msakuru.

Ferdinand Omondi, a fellow journalist, described Mudimba as “one of the kindest souls I ever met, and always ready for a good laugh. Rest in peace, bro.”

Politician Jalang’o also paid tribute, saying, “How do I even start mourning you, my brother… Go well, my kinsman! 😭😭😭 @nickmudimba! Rest well, my mother’s son!”

Musician Daddy Owen shared his disbelief, stating, “I just checked my phone log, Nick called me on February 21st at 18:53. I still can’t believe the news. We shared so many laughs, and it’s hard to accept that he’s gone. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. You’ll be missed more than words can say. RIP Nick Mudimba.”

Mudimba’s career spanned several media houses, including KTN, Switch TV, and most recently, CGTN Africa, where he served as a senior reporter.
