‘SPIRITUAL AND UNIFYING’ SAVARA ON PERFORMING NATIONAL ANTHEM AT WORLD CUP QUALIFIER
Savara delivered a breathtaking performance of the Kenyan national anthem during the World Cup Qualifiers match between Kenya and Gabon at a sold-out Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday.
Reflecting on the experience, Savara shared, “Always knew our Kenyan National Anthem was beautiful. But leading a sold-out national stadium made me realize how spiritual and unifying this music is. When the nation calls, you have to answer. Thank you to all Kenyans, @football_kenya_federation, @harambee_stars, and all officials.”
The match, which saw Kenya’s Harambee Stars face off against Gabon, ended in a 2-1 defeat for the home team. Former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring for Gabon in the 16th minute, followed by a second goal from the penalty spot early in the second half. Kenyan captain Michael Olunga netted a consolation goal for the Harambee Stars, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win.
The result leaves Gabon at the top of Group F with 15 points, followed by Ivory Coast with 13 points. Kenya remains in fourth place with six points, still in contention as the qualifiers progress.
