UGANDAN RADIO PRESENTER GAETANO KAGWA REVEALS WHY HE QUIT HIS JOB AS HEAD OF KISS TV

Renowned Ugandan media personality Gaetano Kagwa has revealed the reasons behind his decision to step down from his role as Head of Kiss TV in Kenya. 

Kagwa, who initially joined Kiss TV as a behind-the-scenes production professional, was encouraged by colleagues to apply for the role of Head of TV after the previous head decided to pursue other ventures.

 Despite initial hesitation, Kagwa applied, underwent the interview process, and was ultimately offered the position. ”After the interview, I sat back and I forgot about it, I moved on with my life. Next thing I know, I’m being called into the office and they’re telling me, Gaetano, you got the job. You are the new head of Kiss TV. “

During the handover period, Kagwa shadowed the outgoing head of TV, observing how he managed calls, negotiations, and team dynamics. However, the transition proved more challenging than anticipated. He found himself fielding complex questions about program distribution, sourcing content, and negotiating deals, tasks that were far removed from his comfort zone.

“Being the head of a department comes with immense responsibility, especially when handling a significant budget and managing a team. I was used to being in front of the camera or microphone. People would come to me with questions, and I often had to say, ‘Let me get back to you.’ Even phone calls about distribution and sourcing were directed to me. It was a lot to handle,” he shared.

After a month in the role, Kagwa realised the position was not the right fit for him. He approached his boss, who admitted he had expected him to step down sooner. Despite being encouraged to “hang in there,” he made the difficult decision to leave the role and return to Uganda.
