By  |

The late former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson, Wafula Chebukati, will be laid to rest on Saturday, March 8, at his Sabata home in Kiminini Constituency, Trans Nzoia County

The announcement was made during a meeting at Chebukati’s home, where family, friends, and government officials gathered to plan the final arrangements for his send-off. Speaking at the meeting, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, assured the family that the government would ensure Chebukati receives a dignified farewell.

Chebukati’s widow, in her first public address since her husband’s passing, expressed appreciation for the overwhelming support from family, friends, and the government. “Some of you have asked why we are so strong. It is because of the support we have received, which has energized us. We all know the kind of life he lived a nice, quiet, and respectful life. I am very grateful to the Speaker and the Committee, and we thank the government for promising to assist us in ensuring there will be security and peace in this home,” she said.

The late Chebukati, a respected figure in Kenya’s electoral history, is survived by his wife and three children. A requiem mass will be held on Wednesday, March 5, at CITAM Karen in Nairobi. A service and tribute memorial will follow on Friday, March 7, at his Sabata home in Trans Nzoia County, ahead of his burial on Saturday, March 8.
