Popular Kenyan content creator and social media influencer Diana Marua recently took to her Instagram Stories to vent her frustration after an encounter with aggressive street families in Nairobi.

The incident, which occurred during a traffic jam near the University of Nairobi (UoN), left her shocked by the bold demands made by the beggars.

Marua, who was stuck in traffic on Uhuru Highway, recounted how a group of women and children surrounded her car, knocking on her windows and shouting her name. “If I could, I would scream. The audacity people have in this Nairobi, and especially beggars!” she wrote.

She described the chaotic scene, “I was stuck for 15 minutes, and it felt like an hour. They circled my car some banged on the door, others screamed my name, demanding money for food, diapers, and their kids. Some even had breastfeeding children with them.”

In an attempt to help, Marua asked for a phone number to send Sh1,000 for them to share. However, the situation escalated when one person suddenly protested, “What is Sh1,000? What will it help us with? Give us Sh10,000!”

Marua was taken aback by the entitlement, firing back: “The audacity! You’re not injured, you have a mouth, you can walk and work for your own money. I hustle, wake up early, create content, and work hard for what I have. You can’t demand how much I should give you!” She concluded with a firm message: “Beggars are not choosers. If you ask for help, do it with manners.”
