BODY BY DESIGN STAFF TO FACE MANSLAUGHTER CHARGES OVER LUCY NG’ANG’A’S TRAGIC DEATH

Nairobi’s beauty industry faces scrutiny as staff members from Body by Design Clinic prepare to answer to manslaughter charges this Wednesday. The case follows the shocking death of Lucy Wambui, a patient who lost her life during a botched cosmetic procedure in October 2024.

The accused surgeon Robert Maweu Mutula, George Wakaria Njoroge, and clinic owner Lilian Edna Wanjiru failed to appear in court as scheduled on Tuesday, delaying their plea-taking.

Senior Principal Magistrate Temu of Kibera Law Courts issued strict orders for the trio to present themselves by 9:00 AM Wednesday, warning against further delays.

Investigations revealed disturbing details surrounding Lucy’s death which operated under the deceptive dual identity of Omnicare Medical Limited and Body by Design. 

While marketed as a fully equipped medical clinic, regulatory audits exposed it as an unlicensed beauty spa performing high-risk procedures without proper oversight.

The tragedy prompted immediate action from health authorities. The Ministry of Health and Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council swiftly shut down the establishment, citing: Illegal operation without valid medical facility licensing. Gross negligence in maintaining basic surgical safety protocols and Misrepresentation of services that endangered patients.

This case has sparked public outrage, with many are questioning how such facilities continue to operate despite known risks, leaving families like Lucy’s to suffer the consequences.
