‘LOVE LIVES IN THE BANK’ YOUNG, FAMOUS & AFRICAN STAR KHANYI MBAU DECLARES

South African actress and Young, Famous & African star Khanyi Mbau has made headlines with her candid take on love, stating, “Love lives in the bank, and if the bank is closed, there is no love.” The remark came during a Q&A session at the launch of her new Netflix series, Meet The Khumalos, where she was asked about her belief in love.

In February 2025, Mbau revealed that she has ended her long-term relationship with Zimbabwean businessman Kudzai Mushonga. Taking to Instagram, she shared that she had finally mustered the courage to walk away. “He was a good man, but he did some bad things. He tried everything to make it up to me,” Mbau admitted. “I did most of my grieving while we were still together. I finally got the strength to leave, and of course, I wish him the best.”

The pair’s relationship faced turbulence in 2021 when Mbau abruptly left Mushonga in Dubai, later releasing her hit song Shiy’indoda eDubai as a response to the experience. At the time, she explained that her departure was an act of self-preservation. “I needed to protect my mental health, I couldn’t function in that environment,” she said in a past radio interview. “The song wasn’t just a joke; it was about empowerment. Know your worth. If you’re not happy, leave and work things out on your own terms.”

Mbau dedicated the track to Mushonga, acknowledging his role in their relationship. “I dedicated it to him for being a man who expressed his feelings and stood up for the person he loved,” she reflected.
