‘I NEVER SLEPT WITH ANYBODY TO GET MY POSITION’ SENATOR HEZENA SPEAKS OUT

Senator Hezena Lemaletian has vehemently denied claims that she engaged in sexual favours to attain her political position.

Speaking in an interview she said, “I am proud to say I never slept with anybody to get any position. Let them come and tell me who,” declared the Senator. “Women own your power, you can be who you want to be, regardless of whether you are married or not,” she added.

Her comments come amid heightened public scrutiny following her recent decision to return her dowry and cancel a traditional Samburu engagement.

Senator Lemaletian did not mince words when addressing the societal expectations placed on women, “If you are in a marriage that does not give you a platform to thrive, be who you are and explore your full potential, it’s an abusive marriage. Women must know they can thrive alone and not suffer in unhappiness just to please society.“

She revealed that a traditional Samburu proposal had been initiated but was halted after her family conducted a background check and rejected the dowry. “The engagement was officially canceled in January 2025,” she clarified.

She spoke against patriarchal norms, stating, “I can be a role model to somebody because I just sent back my dowry a few months ago and I don’t care about that. Women must be able to take up their power.“
