‘I WILL BE CREMATED’ MAINA KAGENI REVEALS DETAILS OF HIS WILL
Classic FM radio host Maina Kageni has revealed his personal decision to be cremated upon his death. His comments follow the recent announcement by the Ministry of Health and Nairobi County Government that Lang’ata Cemetery will soon close due to overcrowding and associated health risks.
Speaking on his popular morning show, Kageni addressed the issue, “Lang’ata Cemetery is full, it’s being closed. The Ministry of Health and Nairobi County Government have confirmed this. The cemetery was declared full 20 years ago, yet we’ve continued burying our loved ones in shallow graves on top of existing ones. This poses a serious health risk.”
Kageni went further to critique common Kenyan burial customs, particularly the transportation of bodies over long distances for burial. “I’ve never understood this African tradition of transporting a body 500 kilometres. People die in America, and we insist on flying the remains back just to bury them. The body is a lifeless mass. We need to embrace cremation and stop burying people on personal property, it makes the land unsellable. Look at the land issues in Kisii, it’s the size of Kawangware, yet everyone wants to be buried there!”
The radio host disclosed that he has already included cremation in his will, “When I die, I’ve made it clear in my will, I’m going to be cremated.”
