The Nairobi County Government has taken enforcement action against the Grand Lodge of East Africa, shutting down the Freemasons’ Hall in the city center over unpaid land rates tAmounting to Sh19 million.

County officials confirmed that due process was followed before the seizure, including multiple demand notices and public advertisements in local newspapers warning of impending action.

The crackdown, spearheaded by Health CEC Suzanne Silantoi, Chief Officer to the Governor Priscilla Mahinda, and Chief Officer for Housing Lydia Mathia, is part of a  county-wide operation to recover outstanding land dues from property owners. “This property has accumulated land rate arrears exceeding KSh19 million,” said Silantoi.

Adding, “We will not only be clamping properties belonging to defaulters, but we are also moving to disconnect services such as water and sewer lines where necessary.

Nairobi County records reveal a significant shortfall in land rate compliance, with only 50,000 out of 256,000 registered properties up to date on payments.
