ONYI PAPA JAY, JOSEH LANGA, & PHOEBE ACHIENG TO PERFORM AT MADARAKA DAY CELEBRATIONS
Kenya’s 62nd Madaraka Day celebrations promise to be a vibrant fusion of history, culture, and world-class entertainment as the nation gathers at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay on June 1, 2025.
Under the leadership of His Excellency President Dr. William Samoei Ruto, this year’s event will not only honour Kenya’s journey to self-rule in 1963 but also showcase the rich artistic tapestry of the Luo Nyanza region through an electrifying lineup of performers.

The musical extravaganza will feature a stellar cast of artists representing various genres that define Kenya’s soundscape. Gospel music lovers will be treated to soul-stirring performances by renowned vocalists including Milka Omondi, Linda Owino, Kevin Gombe, Fred Omondi, Christine Otieno, Phoebe Moses, Paul Oleche Odhiambo, Irene Akoa, and Janet Oudu, whose harmonies promise to uplift the national spirit.
The rhythmic beats of Ohangla will reverberate across the stadium as legendary performers Thomas Oluoch, Freddy Jakadongo, Achieng Nyarongo, Papa T, Arogi Chogo, Abongo Jakabwana, Kaka Talanta, and Othicho Jasuba take the stage, bringing with them the authentic sound of Luo traditional music. Complementing these performances will be Afro Benga sensations Kapweps, Lizzie Seme, Sherine Awuour, Edda Achieng, Linda Matiko, Awicko, Cyrus Omondi, and Rodgers Ouma, who will showcase the evolution of Kenya’s contemporary sound.
The celebrations will also highlight the unique artistry of Orutu players Charles Odhiambo Odhiambo, Peter Opiyo, and Kennedy Ochieng Orwa, whose mastery of this traditional string instrument will add a distinctive cultural flavour to the event. Dynamic dance troupes including the Kagan Kochia Cultural Dancers, Karachuonyo Cultural Dancers, and Nyagwethe Abasuba Dancers will bring visual splendor to the occasion with their captivating movements and colorful costumes.
Homa Bay County’s own talented artists will take centre stage, featuring popular acts such as Onyi Papa Jay, Tony Tolo & Stephen Karisma Omondi, Joseh Langa, Pundo Trio, Tabby Odanga, Phoebe Achieng Immanuel, John Madanji, and Gracious Amani, who will proudly represent their home region. The younger generation will also shine through performances by school groups including the Enguba Dancers, Homabay County Choir, Asumbi Girls High School, and Kongo Primary, demonstrating the continuity of Kenya’s rich cultural traditions.
