RINGTONE RELEASED ON SH1 MILLION CASH BAIL AFTER SPENDING 4 DAYS IN CUSTODY
Gospel musician Alex Apoko, popularly known as Ringtone, has been released from police custody after four days in detention over fraud allegations.
The singer appeared in court on May 19, where he was granted a Sh3 million bond or a Sh1 million cash bail for his release. The court also mandated that he provide two contact persons as part of his bail conditions. His case has been adjourned and will resume on August 6, 2025.
Ringtone was arrested on May 15 alongside his co-accused, Alfred Ayora Juma, in connection with a disputed land transaction. The two were not granted bail on May 16 after pleading not guilty to conspiracy to defraud businesswoman Teresia Adhiambo Odhiambo.
Apoko and Ayora allegedly attempted to illegally acquire a 0.1908-hectare property in Karen, registered under title: Nairobi/Block 99/142.
The artist reportedly claimed ownership of the land stating he had occupied it for more than two decades. While Ringtone faces conspiracy charges, Ayora has been charged with two additional offenses: false swearing and perjury. Authorities accuse him of lying under oath and submitting a fraudulent affidavit to the Environment and Land Court regarding the contested property.
