THE REAL REASON WHY SENATOR HEZENA LEMALETIAN CANCELED ENGAGEMENT AND RETURNED DOWRY

Senator Hezena Lemaletian has issued an official statement regarding the cancellation of her engagement and the return of dowry, following malicious media attacks on her personal life. “I have been necessitated to make this official communication following continuous malicious media attacks on me despite my silence and respect to both families involved,” stated Senator Lemaletian.

She recently disclosed that a marriage proposal was made in the traditional Samburu custom known as siamu (an ambush proposal). However, she said that in Samburu culture, a thorough background check must be conducted before any marriage is finalised. “The elders of my family halted the entire process after the background check and refused to accept dowry from that individual. As such, the engagement was officially canceled in January 2025,” she clarified.

Senator Lemaletian confirmed that all necessary steps were taken to conclude the matter, including returning the KSh100,000 that had been presented to the elders during the initial meeting. “Therefore, allegations that I was married are false and unfounded. I will not be married to that person whatsoever,” she said. Adding, “No amount of words can express my gratitude for their involvement in my life, just as my father would have done if he were here with us today.”

The Senator requested privacy for her family moving forward, “My family and I request total privacy moving forward on this matter. Anything else that will slander my name out of failure to accept these decisions and move on will be handled legally,” she warned.
