AUTHOR WEBSTER OCHORA RELEASED ON CASH BAIL AFTER ARREST OVER UNAUTHORISED CHARLENE RUTO BIOGRAPHY
Webster Ochora Elijah, the author arrested for publishing an unauthorized book about Charlene Ruto, has been released on Ksh50,000 cash bail.
Charlene defended the police action, stating the author never sought her consent before publishing ‘Beyond the Name: Charlene Ruto and the Youth Uprising’. “He didn’t get my permission before writing that book,” she said. “We have a culture in this country where we misuse people’s names and get away with it, it’s not right and that’s not what I stand for.”
The first daughter cooperated with DCI investigators, submitting her statement as part of the legal process. She talked about the importance of ethical conduct, particularly for young creatives: “The gentleman never came to me with a suggestion to write a book on my behalf. To me, that was a misuse of my name.”
Ochora’s lawyer argued his client’s credentials, “The young man has authored many books including works about Donald Trump and Raila Odinga. He was working on positive content about Charlene Ruto but unfortunately due process wasn’t followed in this arrest.“
Appearing in court, Ochora pleaded not guilty to identity theft charges under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act. The case has been scheduled for hearing on June 17.
