BATTLE OF THE CHOIRS SUPPLIERS DEMAND PAYMENT FROM GOVERNOR SAKAJA FOR 2 YEARS OF UNPAID DUES
After more than two years of silent suffering, the suppliers behind the Battle of the Choirs Festival (BOTC) are finally speaking out. Their decision to go public comes in direct response to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s recent claims at the Church of Christ in Africa, Makadara on June 8, 2025, where he falsely stated that no payments were outstanding for the festival.
From the inaugural season in April 2023 through to the second season in April 2024, teams of young professionals across public relations, production, branding and marketing poured their hearts, skills and limited resources into bringing Governor Sakaja’s vision to life. They worked tirelessly, fueled by promises of fair compensation
Yet today, not a single member of these essential teams has received payment for their services. “Now we are speaking publicly. This is no longer just about money. It’s about accountability, integrity and respect for the creative professionals who made BOTC a success,” read the suppliers statement.
Many returned for the second season in good faith, trusting that their dues would eventually be settled. That trust was betrayed. While one of the suppliers received payment in 2024, the rest have been met with nothing but silence despite countless emails, phone calls and months of patient waiting. “Governor Sakaja, whoever advised you that no debt remains. Is not telling the truth. You asked us to believe in your dream. We did. You asked us to deliver, we did. We asked you to do the right thing, honour your word, pay your debt, restore trust.“
