Comedian Stan Saleh has opened up about using his platform to tackle Kenya’s most sensitive political issues through humour.

In a bold interview on Buzz Central Podcast with host Cheptoek Boyo, he said,  “It’s quite scary at times.” Saleh admitted when discussing his politically-charged sketches on police brutality, bribery, and abductions. “When you hear stories of people being abducted just going to buy milk or get a haircut it’s terrifying. But if fear controls us, dictatorship and authoritarianism will creep in.”

Breaking from the culture of silence, Saleh stated “If you avoid these topics and only talk about scandals and celebrities, you’re limiting yourself and the intelligence of Kenyans. This is our country. We have civil liberties, freedom of expression, assembly and we must use them.”

However, he stressed the need for balance,” You have to be bold but tactful. You can’t disrespect the presidency or cross lines like putting him in a coffin. It’s a fine balance: advocating for rights and constitutional fidelity while calling truth to power.”
