GLOBAL ARTISTES DAVIDO AND QUEEN IFRICA CALL FOR PEACE IN KENYA

Global music stars Davido and Queen Ifrica have joined voices calling for peace and unity in Kenya as the nation marked the one-year anniversary of the 2024 Finance Bill protests.

The Nigerian superstar Davido took to his X (formerly Twitter) account with a simple yet powerful message, “Peace and love to Kenya.” Meanwhile, Jamaican reggae artist and activist Queen Ifrica shared, “Hold faith Kenya, peace and justice will prevail. Our ancestors will stand with us. #ProtectandServe. Also to other countries experiencing wars and suffering #Lovewillwin.”

The calls for calm came as Kenyans mobilised on June 25, 2025, to commemorate last year’s historic protests against the 2024 Finance Bill, which saw widespread demonstrations across the country.

Authorities maintained a heavy security presence in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), restricting access to key government buildings, including Parliament and State House. Major roads were barricaded with razor wire, while anti-riot police conducted stop-and-search operations on motorists and pedestrians. Most businesses in the city remained closed as a precaution, with many Kenyans opting to stay home amid fears of potential unrest.
