‘I DIDN’T LEAVE MY HOUSE FOR 45 DAYS’ JOY KENDI TALKS ABOUT BATTLE WITH DEPRESSION
Popular digital content creator Joy Kendi has opened up about her battle with depression and creative burnout.
In an interview, she revealed how it impacted her YouTube channel and daily life. “I stopped going outside and having things to shoot. I also fell into depression. When you’re in that dark place, short-form content feels more manageable than long-form YouTube videos,” Kendi disclosed.
She reflected on why she decided not to shoot long format content disclosing the audience could sense her struggles through her content, “In a 15-minute YouTube video, people can tell when you’re not okay.” Kendi described hitting a low point in life, “There was a time I didn’t leave my house for 45 days, not even stepping outside my front door.“
The creator said it took months before she could get out of depression, “One thing about depression is you don’t realise you’re in it until you’re deep in. I thought acknowledging it meant I could fix it in a week, but recovery took me seven months.”
Adding, “I was a workaholic for so long that my body crashed. I faced a creative block but kept pushing to churn out content,” she added. Now on the path to recovery, Kendi is rebuilding her routine, “I’m trying to rediscover my rhythm of living and creating.”
