BONIFACE MWANGI GIVES HEALTH UPDATE AFTER TORTURE IN TANZANIA
Activist Boniface Mwangi marked his 42nd birthday with a public statement sharing a health update after his alleged abduction and torture in Tanzania nearly two months ago.
The incident also involved the abduction of fellow activist Agather Atuhaire, “Two months later, we’re still struggling to walk properly due to the injuries inflicted during our torture, and some of the wounds will take time to heal,” Mwangi shared.
He described the mental anguish as the most challenging part of recovery. “Mentally, it’s hard. The psychological and physical torture we went through left a hole in me. I wake up with severe pain in my chest, it’s not physical, it’s emotional, like someone has pierced my heart. A lot. When I’m seated and l quiet myself, my body becomes engulfed with an overwhelming sadness. I sometimes find myself crying alone.”
He credited his survival to public pressure, adding, “Agather and I are alive and able to continue fighting because you fought for us. Thank you.” To focus on his recovery, Mwangi announced a temporary break from social media. “To celebrate my birthday, I shall take a break from social media for some time to focus on healing. I’m alive for a reason, and l will not let what happened to us define or scar me forever.”
