FAITH KIPYEGON AND BEATRICE CHEBET AWARDED SH5 MILLION EACH FOR BREAKING WORLD RECORDS

The Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Hon. Salim Mvurya, has presented athletics stars Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet with KSh5 million each in recognition of their historic world record-breaking performances.

Speaking during the ceremony at Talanta Plaza, CS Mvurya lauded the athletes for their exceptional achievements, which have brought pride to the nation.

“It was an honour to present Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet with KSh 5 million each, as earlier pledged by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports,” said CS Mvurya.

“Faith Kipyegon is more than a record breaker; she is a living legend. With her extraordinary performance in the 1500 metres at the Prefontaine Classic, clocking 3:48.68, she has once again shattered the world record and cemented her status as the greatest middle-distance runner of all time,”added CS Mvurya.

The CS also commended Beatrice Chebet for her remarkable achievements, alongside other elite athletes who continue to raise Kenya’s flag high on the global stage. “I had the distinct honour of Beatrice Chebet, and a host of our elite athletes to Talanta Plaza, true heroes and heroines who have once again made history, lifted our spirits, and brought immense pride to our nation this morning.“

The Cabinet Secretary reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting athletes as they prepare for future competitions, including the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. “On behalf of the Government of Kenya, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to these remarkable athletes and the entire Kenyan contingent for their outstanding performances at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League in Eugene, United States.”

Adding, “As a government, we are not only proud of your achievements, we stand firmly committed to walking this journey with you. As we now shift focus to the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, we do so with renewed confidence and optimism, knowing that you will once again raise the Kenyan flag high on the global stage.“
