GOVERNMENT DROPS TERRORISM CHARGES AGAINST BONIFACE MWANGI
The prosecution has withdrawn terrorism-related charges against prominent activist Boniface Mwangi following his arrest over the weekend.
Instead, Mwangi, who appeared in Kahawa Law Courts on Monday, now faces two counts of unlawful possession of ammunition. According to court documents, the activist is accused of having three teargas canisters and one blank ammunition round without proper authorisation.
The first charge states that on July 19, 2025, Mwangi was found with “three teargas canisters without lawful authority” at Mageuzi Hub in Nairobi County.
Mwangi’s arrest on Saturday was confirmed by DCI Director Amin Mohammed, who initially linked the detention to suspicions of aiding terrorist activities during the June 25 protests.
