NEWS ANCHOR FRIDAH MWAKA REJECTS MP’S SH2.5M CAR GIFT
Popular Swahili news anchor Fridah Mwaka has disclosed she turned down an offer from a Member of Parliament to buy her a car, choosing instead to uphold her dignity.
In a candid revelation, Mwaka shared how she faced workplace discrimination from colleagues who looked down on her for not owning a car.
“One told me, ‘I feel you are not my class because you don’t have a car,’” she disclosed. “I told God, ‘You have given me the job I wanted, but I don’t want to be shamed for not having a car.’”
The same day, an MP who had noticed her situation offered to purchase a vehicle for her, with a budget capped at Sh 2.5 million. However, Mwaka gracefully declined, “An MP told me, ‘Fridah, I want to see you.’ He took me to Ngong Road to a showroom and said, ‘I want to get you a car, budget should not exceed Sh 2.5M.’ I don’t know what to call it, stupidity. I refused. I was scared. I had just arrived in Nairobi.“
