RIGATHI GACHAGUA & OKIYA OMTATAH MOURN THE PASSING OF COMEDIAN KK MWENYEWE
Kenya’s creative industry and political leaders are mourning the sudden loss of content creator and comedian Zachariah Kariuki, popularly known as KK Mwenyewe.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua shared his condolences, stating, “I have this morning woken up to the sad demise of Mr. Zachariah Kariuki, alias Mr. KK Mwenyewe, a content creator par excellence and an inspiration to many. A young, consistent, and resilient talent, he used comedy to communicate simple yet powerful messages that spoke directly to our hearts. My deepest sympathies go to his family, friends, and the entire creative industry. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
Renowned activist and politician Okiya Omtatah also paid tribute, saying,” I am deeply saddened by the passing of Zakaria Kariuki, a young and fearless comedian whose voice resonated with a generation. Through satire, he held a mirror to society, using humour not to divide but to awaken, educate, and unite. Kenya has lost not just a comedian but a cultural commentator and a patriot. May his light continue to inspire courage and creativity in those he leaves behind.”
KK Mwenyewe rose to fame in 2022 for his hilarious and spot-on impersonations of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, earning him a massive following 1.1 million on TikTok and 412,000 on Facebook. The comedian passed away on July 14 while receiving medical care at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital.
