VICTORIA KIMANI ON BRIEF ENCOUNTER WITH DIDDY AND MISSED OPPORTUNITY TO WORK WITH CASSIE
Kenyan singer-songwriter Victoria Kimani has opened up about a memorable encounter with rap mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs at his famed Daddy’s House studio, as well as a missed opportunity to work with singer Cassie due to financial constraints at the time.
In a recent interview, Kimani shared that she met Diddy briefly while working under a publishing company that connected her with various producers and artists, including Mario Winans. It was through Winans that she ended up at Daddy’s House, where she wrote two songs that caught the attention of the Bad Boy Records founder.
“I remember the day [Mario] brought Puff in to listen to the records. It was just brief, he walked in, listened to both songs, shook my hand, said, ‘That’s fire,’ and left. That was the first and last time I saw him,” Kimani recounted. Adding, “I also don’t think I was his type. It was the 2000s and he was with Cassie. The holy spirit was protecting me.”
Following the meeting, Kimani was invited back to vocal produce a track titled Bougie Sh*t for Cassie, who was signed to Diddy’s label at the time. However, due to financial struggles, she was unable to make the session. “It was raining, I was broke. I didn’t even have money for a train. I got cussed out for not showing up and not communicating, but looking back, I think that was God protecting me,” she reflected.
