WINYO REVEALS HOW WIFE WALKING OUT OF 10-YEAR MARRIAGE DROVE HIM TO ALCOHOLISM

Renowned Kenyan artist Winyo Shiphton popularly known as Winyo has opened up on divorce and battling alcoholism.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Cheptoek Boyo on Buzz Central. The celebrated musician revealed how the collapse of his 10-year marriage led him into a dark spiral of alcoholism before a life-changing spiritual encounter set him on a path to redemption.

Winyo, known for his soulful music and cultural influence, recounted the pain of failing to provide for his family, which ultimately led to his wife leaving him.

“I was married, and as the provider of my home, I couldn’t provide during that time, and my wife left,” Winyo confessed. “I was devastated for a very long time. 10 years of marriage, it destabilised my whole system. I lost hope and got deep into alcohol. It was taking me in a very bad direction.”

At his lowest point, Winyo’s family, particularly his parents, grew concerned as his life spiralled out of control. His mother, refusing to give up, took him to a spiritual prayer camp while he was intoxicated, a moment he credits as the turning point in his life. “My mom must have really lost hope, but she never gave up on me. I love her, I’ll do everything for her,” he shared emotionally. “That night, I was in another realm where I met my decisions, my Savior, and I was rescued. By 3 AM, things changed. Trust me, God exists because that day, I saw God.“

Since that transformative night on April 15, 2020, Winyo has remained sober, attributing his strength to divine intervention. “It’s like someone else entered my being. I’m fresh, new, strong, and powerful. I stopped drinking that day, even the smell of alcohol repulses me now.”

Now rejuvenated, Winyo urges fellow artists and leaders to guard themselves spiritually. “We need to protect ourselves because if we don’t, we’re bound to fall. Many might not believe my story, but it’s deeper than that.“
