Lang’ata MP, Phelix Odiwuor popularly known as Jalang’o is calling for all students who finish secondary school to undergo National Youth Service (NYS) training before joining college or looking for a job.

In a recent post, he stressed that Kenya’s youth need real-life skills and values that will help them succeed in life. He believes NYS can provide that foundation.

Jalang’o said that serving in the NYS would help young people build discipline, responsibility, and toughness both physically and mentally. It would also teach them leadership, teamwork, and the importance of hard work. Most importantly, it would keep them busy and productive, reducing idleness and building stronger communities.

He made it clear that this is not meant to be a punishment. Instead, he sees it as a way to prepare the youth for greater things in life. “Let’s raise a generation that is not just educated,” he said, “but ready for the future.
