NAIROBI TO HOST INAUGURAL DAVINCI FILMAFRICA FESTIVAL IN 2026

DaVinci Film Society, a non-profit organisation behind the prestigious DaVinci International Film Festival (DIFF), today announced the launch of FilmAfrica, a groundbreaking festival designed to celebrate and empower African filmmakers. 

The inaugural DaVinci FilmAfrica Festival will take place in Nairobi, Kenya, in July 2026, and then continue annually in partnership with the Kenya Film Commission, strategically timed to coincide with the Great Wildebeest Migration to boost tourism.

DaVinci FilmAfrica expands DIFF’s acclaimed global programs including FilmBC in Canadaand Film Asia to spotlight Africa’s vibrant cinematic talent. “This platform is dedicated to amplifying the vibrant and creative voices of African filmmakers, offering them an international stage,” said Chadwick Pelletier, CEO DaVinci FilmAfrica Festival.

Winners in Feature and Short film categories will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Los Angeles to screen their films at DIFF’s FilmAfrica program, participate in filmmaker Q&As and receive special recognition at the Leo Award,”

The festival aims to drive tourism, create jobs, and foster cultural exchange, positioning Kenya as a hub for film. Speaking at the launch, Sudi Wandabusi,chairman of the Kenya Film Commission, said,  “We are delighted to welcome the Da Vinci International Film Festival team, who bring a proven record of hosting highly successful festivals in Asia and the US. Your decision to launch your inaugural African edition here in Kenya is a strong vote of confidence in our film industry, our talent, and our country’s potential as a creative powerhouse.”

Wandabusi also added that the festival will boost employment in the country, “DaVinci FilmAfrica 2026 will be more than a celebration of cinema it will be a catalyst for tourism promotion showcasing Kenya’s breathtaking landscapes and dynamic cities to the world, inspiring both filmmakers and visitors. The festival will also create direct and indirect jobs for local crew, actors, technicians, event managers, marketers, and service providers in hospitality, transport, and beyond.
