POLICE ARREST 14 TEENAGERS IN UMOJA OVER GANG-RELATED CRIME
The police have arrested total of 14 teenagers, among them 10 boys and 4 girls, in connection with the juvenile gangs in Umoja, Nairobi, following violent incident that led to the death of a 15-year-old boy.
The suspects were arraigned in Makadara Law Courts and remanded for 14 days to allow detectives to complete their investigations.
In a press statement, the NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said, “The National Police Service sincerely commends the members of the public who provided confidential, credible information that led to the operation’s success. We urge the public to continue this partnership in the spirit of community policing.”
The teenagers had organised themselves into rival gangs with names such as Chinje, Mbogi, Bad Bunny and Silent. These groups have been linked to violent clashes, phone snatching, and theft in Umoja I, II, & III, Tena, Innercore, Kayole, Kariobangi and surrounding estates.
