ACTOR GATHONI MUTUA CALLS OUT SHIKSHA ARORA AFTER BASHING RADIO PRESENTER
Single Kiasi actor Gathoni Mutua, has called out TV47 presenter Shiksha Arora after she shared a video blasting a radio presenter for using a fake UK accent.
“I was driving, I heard a radio presenter and she was putting on an accent and it was so obvious. You don’t need to put on an accent which will make you mispronounce your words, talk clearly and don’t fake an accent. Own your accent, identity and everyone is going to love you because you are not trying to be someone you aren’t,” Shiksha said.
In her response, the actress issued a statement claiming Shiksha is privileged and should not be bashing other presenters. She further stated that Arora’s career has benefited from a naturally British-influenced accent, which is favored in certain media spaces. “I like Shiksha but this comment lacks appreciation for her own privilege. Imagine if she had a strong Luhya or Kikuyu accent… do you think she’d have been a KBC host all those years?
I dunno… Her accent is not Kenyan… it is British influenced (according to Kenyans)… so maybe appreciate that your accent has helped her instead of bashing people who wish for the same privilege she’s had for years… (we aren’t even gonna talk about skin colour privilege here)… I dunno… seems like the kettle calling the pot black.”
